Imagine sitting back with your morning coffee and a joint only to be interrupted by the cream of Malta’s anti-drug squad brandishing a pistol in your face. This is what happens to Scottish expatriate in Malta, Danny, in this hilarious new farce, ‘L-Arrest ta’ Danny Weed’ by Alfred Buttigieg and directed by Michael Fenech. Razor-sharp and action-packed, it offers slapstick and side-splitting laughter galore. It is also calls out police corruption and its enablers in the political class.
The ambitious Inspector and her veteran sergeant are convinced Danny is a druglord and ferret through Danny’s flat in search of hard evidence. In the meantime, lovable rookie PC1 and PC2 are ordered to hang on to Danny like limpets.
Each of Buttigieg’s plays is completely different from his previous works. Here is his first farce. These days we need the catharsis of laughter more than ever. This rollicking, rambunctious play will provide it.
The play will be performed at the Blue Box Theatre, Msida on 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12 March 2023.
The play is directed by Michael Fenech and taking part are Audrey Scerri, Chris Spiteri, James Ryder, Matthew Sant, Simon Curmi and Sean Briffa.
